SHORTHANDED GOALS on a Monday afternoon… Let’s get straight to the point, the NY Rangers are on a roll, people! A 7-0 win against an overmatched Nashville squad that I thought would put up a little fight, much less a whimper. Granted, the Preds are in a sort of rebuild under new G.M. Barry Trotz and were without McDonaugh and Roman Josi, but the goaltending was horrific!! It was a back to back for both teams, so no excuses there. They lacked that Smashville mentality they have always had. They traded Tanner Jeannot, I know they got a boatload of picks, Trotz better hope they pan out. Lest we forget, this is the guy who benched Alexander Ovechkin. They did win the cup that year, and he took the Islanders to the ECF during the covid year, I would not want him coaching or G.Mming the Rangers. He wanted that job and was hoping Drury would fire Gallant after that tough start, but the team has rallied and has too much talent to fail. Don’t screw it up Gerard!! But I digress, the Rangers put on an offensive clinic and Jaro Halak made 3 saves in the 1st 5 minutes that seemed to deflate the Preds and energize the boys in blue. Filip Chytil got off the schneid, scoring his 1st goal in 18 games, on a sweet move thru the Preds defense. It showed off all of his talent, speed, strength and power. Not to mention, good hands, kid! Everyone had a laugh as he followed the puck into the back of the net and the rout was on! The top line of Mika, Panarin and Tarasenko kept on rolling, when Mika scored on a beauty of a feed from Panarin. Tyler Motte scored quickly there after, on Troubas assist to the bumper position. K’Andre joined the rush with Trocheck, and he scored after a nice no look feed from Trocheck. Lankinen was pulled after allowing 4 goals on 6 shots. Enter Juuse Saros. The 1st 2 shots he faced, a goal from Panarin on a 4 on 3, and a shot from the point by Miller, for his 2nd goal and 4th point in the 1st period?! 4 points in the period by Miller has never happened in NYR history, by a Defenseman!! Not Park, Leetch, nor Fox. Crazy. At that point it was 6-0 and there was 45 minutes of hockey left. the Rangers seemed to let up, although Kreider scored number 32 in the 2nd. The Predators just wanted out of there and to never see M.S.G again. What a nightmare. The final was 7-0 Rangers. Back to back shutouts. 15 unanswered goals going back to the Penguin game. Unbelievable. That’s now 4 wins in a row, 6-0-1 in the last 7. The chase for the Metro is on. I read an article 10 days ago by the great Larry Brooks, who asked if the Rangers were better than the Devils and the Islanders? What? The Isles cannopt beat this Ranger team nor an the Devils. Not with this depth. Not with this talent. Offense, check. Defense, check. Goaltending, check. Experience, check. Its on, now. Can we catch Carolina? 2 games and 8 points in the standings over the next 4 days will tell us. I keep reminding everyone that I said that this homestand will show us who the real NYRangers are. 4 straight at home, playing the Hurricanes at just the right time, less than a month til the playoffs and the Rangers are flying. Only one note today….just enjoy what you are seeing folks, its special. Clicking on all cylinders. CAN’T WAIT til Tuesday night at the Garden. It will be rocking!!! Carolina vs the Rangers
